DECLARED EMERGENCY GRANTS

Any Episcopal deacon, in good standing with their diocese, who has been impacted financially by a Federal-, State-, or Local-declared emergency is eligible to apply for a Declared Emergency Grant.

A “Declared Emergency” is issued by the President, state, local or Indian tribal government leaders when a disaster is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond their capabilities, and federal assistance is necessary. Declared emergencies can include wildfires, floods, public health crises, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. (www.fema.gov)

The emergency grants program began in 2020 during Covid, as a means to assist Episcopal deacons who sustained a financial loss related to the pandemic. Today, those who’ve been impacted by a declared emergency may apply for a grant of up to $5,000, to assist with consequential financial loss of income and/or housing.
